Equipment to help you care for someone
You can ask for a home assessment if you help someone:
- getting in or out of bed or chair
- washing or dressing themselves
- going to and using the toilet
- moving about the house and reaching for things
Equipment can help the person you are looking after to be more independent and make your life easier.

What we may pay for
We will identify what you need at home to make everyday tasks easier for you.
If you need equipment or minor changes to your home, we’ll pay for these up to the value of £1,000.
Major adaptations, for example, stair lifts or entrance ramps, require a Disabled Facilities Grant. Depending on your household income and savings, you may pay none, some, or all the cost.

We will look at your referral, and together we can decide on the best way to work with you. This could be talking to you on the telephone or visiting you at home.
Depending on your situation, we can:
- give information and advice
- provide a voucher for you to buy equipment from an approved seller
- order equipment for you to use at home
- ask our equipment supplier to visit you on our behalf
- request minor changes to your home
- apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant for major changes to your home
If changes are not possible, we can talk to you about moving home to a property that works better for you.
If you are using equipment on loan from NRS Healthcare, you'll need to contact them if:
- equipment is faulty or is no longer working
- you no longer need the equipment
