Short-break services

These are services for residents with complex and high support needs, including those with learning difficulties and dementia.

The day services are fully accessible for those with mobility problems. Our sites are wheelchair friendly. The toilet facilities are accessible and spacious. Staff are always on hand to help if needed.

Services provided

The council directly runs day opportunities through its ‘short breaks’ service which is delivered at four centres. These are :

  • Aylesbury Short Breaks Centre
  • Chesham Short Breaks Centre
  • Spring Valley Short Breaks Centre
  • Seeleys House Short Breaks Centre

Most services are open Monday to Friday all year round (except for Bank Holidays and over Christmas).

Seeleys short breaks overnight services is the exception and open all year round apart from Christmas Day.

What support will I get

On your first day attending the service, you may have your own social care assistant who will help you settle in and will create a support plan with you.

After six weeks, we will get in touch with you to make sure that you are happy with how the service is supporting you.

We will then complete six-monthly and yearly reviews to make sure you are still happy, and the service meets your needs.

Will I have to pay

This depends on your financial assessment. You may have to pay for the service and for any transport we arrange for you. You may have to pay for:

  • food
  • drinks
  • some activities
